On Wednesday 18 November, HubStor hosted a webinar about message journaling (sometimes referred to as message capture). The webinar’s title was “Journaling messages today, could save you time tomorrow”.
In addition to a presentation, this webinar also included a live demo of HubStor’s Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS) platform, focusing on our message journaling capabilities. I’ve provided a short recap of the webinar and a video recording of the presentation below so you can check it out yourself.
We started off by explaining what message journaling is – the continuous capture of all message data. We discussed email’s evolution from a “nice-to-have’ to a mission-critical business tool. With the widespread adoption of messaging applications, like Slack and Microsoft Teams, messages in these applications must also be journaled.
We also spent some time on some of the features required from any message journaling solutions you might be considering for your organization.
Why organizations use journaling
We discussed why organizations are using message journaling and how it benefits them. The most obvious reason is to ensure compliance with various regulations such as FINRA, SEC Rule 17a-4, and Sarbanes-Oxley. Journaling is a very useful tool for any litigation your organization might be part of, regardless of whether you’re the plaintiff or the defendant. The ability to both apply a legal hold on a specific set of messages, and the ability to export those message are essential for the discovery process of any legal proceedings.
Lastly, an often-overlooked benefit of journaling is that it can be very useful in protecting your company’s intellectual property.
Next, I gave a live demonstration of HubStor’s message journaling capabilities. We showed how our management interface is intuitive and easy to use. I demonstrated the process involved in applying a legal hold on a specified subset of the journaled data and how to prepare a copy of that data for export.
Questions and answers
We always enjoy taking questions from the audience during our webinars. We were asked – and we answered – questions on additional compliance regulations and data sovereignty.
