On Wednesday, 16 September, HubStor hosted a webinar about Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS) for VMware vSphere VMs. The webinar was titled “Overpaying on vSphere Backup? Now it’s time to go with cloud Backup-as-a-Service”.
I had the honor of presenting the webinar. As a new hire, this was the first presentation I’ve given since joining HubStor. I’ll provide a short recap of the webinar here and a video recording of the presentation below so you can check it out yourself.
Challenges with VM Backup
We started off talking about some of the challenges our customers have experienced when backing up their virtual machines. For example, many virtual machine (VM) backup solutions are overly-complex and expensive. A virtual machine backup solution needs to serve the needs of the virtualization environment – a place where VMs can be created and destroyed at will. Backup solutions for physical servers don’t need to be as agile, but virtualization environments are dynamic.
What is Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS)?
If you’re a regular reader of this blog or a HubStor customer, I do not doubt that you’re already familiar with BaaS, but it’s a concept that is still new to some people, so we wanted to provide an introduction to it. Backup-as-a-Service is a subscription service that bills monthly. Many, like HubStor, use a Pay-as-You-Go consumption model, meaning that you are billed based on the amount of data you backup and store. This ensures that you’re only paying for resources and services that you’re using.
Why choose BaaS for VM Backup?
With its flexibility and agility, Backup-as-a-Service is a great fit for ever-changing virtual environments. With HubStor’s BaaS solution for virtual machines, our customers configure policies to control when and how their VM backup is performed. HubStor then does the work for them – according to the policies – automagically.
Demo of the HubStor BaaS Platform
Here, Sal Malik, Senior Sales Engineer at HubStor, stepped in to give a live demonstration of the HubStor solution. He showed how easy it is to use the wizards in the GUI to create backup policies. He also demonstrated how fast and easy HubStor makes it to restore a virtual machine. If you watch the video, I’m sure you’ll agree with me that he did a great job.
Questions and Answers
No webinar or presentation would be complete without taking questions from the audience. We received some great questions on topics like scalability and data sovereignty.
If these topics interest you, check out the recording of the webinar below. Hopefully, it answers any questions you might have about HubStor’s BaaS solution for VMs, but if it doesn’t, feel free to reach out to us.
