I don’t know about you, but when there are updates available to apps I have installed on my phone, I’m often curious about what’s been changed. However, most of the time, info on the update looks something like this:

Changes in this release:
Various bug fixes and performance improvements.

That’s what I expect EVERY update to include, but that’s a stunning lack of detail from the people who should have more knowledge about the app than anyone else.

At HubStor, we use an Agile development model. If you’re not familiar with the term, the short version is that we push new features, bug fixes, and improvements to our platform when they’ve passed testing, rather than saving them all for a release scheduled in the future. This allows us to get fixes into Production more or less immediately and make new features and improvements available to our customers much faster.

So, in order to help ensure that you don’t experience the lack-of-details update information frustration that I have, you’ll find a roster of the features, fixes, and improvements we made in Q3. If you’re curious, this was done across 21 separate pushes to Production.

Features

HubStor added the following features during Q3 2020:

  • Flexibility for data retention policies
    • Added the option of a fixed date for retention – This feature allows you to set a fixed retention date (as opposed to a relative period of time) on a per-folder basis.
  • Safeguards for customers’ key Azure resources
    • For self-hosted customers, HubStor now applies locks on critical resources (storage accounts, SQL servers, SQL databases) to safeguard against accidental data deletion.
  • Reminder emails for self-hosted customers
    • HubStor now sends regular email reminders of security and governance best practices to self-hosted customers.
  • Ability to place a copy of all voice call recordings in an external storage account
    • This enables easy integration with third-party auditing solutions.
  • Provide more detailed info on virtual machines (VMs)
    • Double-clicking on any VM in the summary tabs will display full details for that VM.
  • Support for VMware environments with datastore clusters
  • Support for timestamps that use fractional seconds
  • Azure Blob Storage connector now supports .hsmetadata.xml files
    • This allows third-party integrators to use Azure Blob Storage as the transfer mechanism for passing data and advanced metadata into HubStor.
  • Support for the Danish kronor (DKK) to billing mechanism
  • Support for capture of Microsoft Teams call recordings
  • Support for Truphone
    • HubStor now supports Truphone as a content source for automatic capture of voice calls and texts into HubStor storage.
  • Support for Microsoft Hyper-V

Enhancements

HubStor added the following enhancements during Q3 2020:

  • Functionality added to the API
    • Compute the recursive size of a location, showing
      • Total number of files and folders
      • Compressed and Uncompressed size (HubStor stores everything compressed to help reduce customer cost)
      • Show location item policy, tags, and tag behaviors in a single API call. This used to require three separate calls.
      • Improve audits by adding the ability to return a full list of activity history of an individual item.
    • Support for additional types of data visualizations in the management console
    • Mark backups more clearly in the backups summary
      • This makes it easier to see how many backups are full backups, rather than incremental backups.
    • Improve file retrieval diagnostics
      • The diagnostics now include the file size.
    • Make it easier to see things in the GUI
      • GUI displays a running animation for backup or restore jobs in process, making it easier to identify which jobs are currently running.
    • Improvements to HubStor’s free File Copy Utility
      • This includes improvements to the UI, adding the ability to export error logs, and adding fast, multi-threaded copy.

As you can see, we were busy in Q3, and one month into Q4, it looks like this quarter will be at least as busy. So, keep an eye on this space for information on future updates.
